A member of the Federal House of Representatives (Jigawa) and Chairman House Committee on Refugees, Sani Zorro , has advised President Muhammadu Buhari-led government to negotiate with the Boko Haram.

The former president of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) said only such could guarantee lasting peace in the country.

Zorro spoke at the weekend during a stakeholders meeting organised by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) held in Abuja to access the plights of Internally displaced persons in the country.

Daily Trust quoted him as saying that conflicts were not unusual but negotiation is an avenue often used to end bloodshed.

He said government should use the nation?s resources for development rather than the purchase of weapons and ammunition to fight Boko Haram, saying that, ?we need to negotiate with these bad boys, honestly.?

He recalled that after the death of Mohammed Yusuf, its founder, all Boko Haram demanded was the rebuilding of their mosque and compensation for the death of its five members.

?This would have cost the government not more than four million naira, but today, we have lost lives and we are still spending money to curb insurgency,? Zorro added.
