A Gudu Upper Area Court in the FCT, on Wednesday ordered that two men, Anthony Umeh, 26, and Jacob Michael, 25, be remanded in prison for allegedly stabbing a man?s right eye.
Umeh of Phigba Kasa Village, Abuja and Michael of Wumba Village, Apo, Abuja, are being tried for criminal conspiracy, trespass, attempt to commit culpable homicide and theft.
The Judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko who gave the order, said that the accused should be brought back to court on Dec. 15 for consideration of their bail application.
Kagarko adjourned the case till Jan. 28 for further hearing and ordered the police to verify the victim?s condition and also present the medical report to the court.
Earlier, the police prosecutor, Insp. Emmanuel Edet told the court that Mohammed Idris of Behind first transformer, Wumba Community, Apo, Abuja reported the matter at the Apo Police Station on Nov. 28.
Edet said that the accused persons and others at large, conspired among themselves, armed with cutlasses and knives and trespassed into the complainant?s house.
He said the accused persons met one of the complainant?s brothers, Saddam Abdulrahaman and stabbed him with a knife in his right eye.
According to him, the accused persons inflicted various degrees of machete cuts all over Abdulrahaman?s head and he collapsed.
Edet also said that the accused persons ran away and left Abdulrahaman in a pool of his blood, thinking he was dead.
He said that the accused persons also stole a laptop and television set from the said house.
Edet stated that the offences contravened the provisions of sections 97, 348, 229 and 288 of the Penal Code.
He told the court that some members of the accused group were on the run, and releasing the accused on bail would tamper with police investigations, adding that the victim is still in the hospital
The accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
