Singer Beyonce Tops Google’s Year-End List of Top Searches

Beyoncé is tops the list for most searched artist and songs—because of course she does.
In fact, Bey’s “Formation” even bested Prince’s “Purple Rain” which snagged more searches after his untimely death in April, and Rae Sremmurd’s immensely popular song that ended up being the soundtrack to the mannequin challenge, “Black Beatles.”
Beyoncé earning the top spot is really a testament to both her massive popularity and the impact of her expansive 2016 album, Lemonade, which is not only her personal best but has landed at the top of many critic’s year-end lists as well. Helping to set the tone for the music that would be released this year, specifically from black artist– the record was a study on female empowerment, black resilience and black beauty, layered by deep tracks that found Bey at her most confident, an therefore, best, musically.
Her subsequent world tour, Formation, was record-breaking, and grossed over $250 million with 2.2 million tickets sold.
“When everybody acknowledges the greatness of the production but, more than that, everybody is blown away by her, that’s the ultimate skill,” Arthur Fogel, the chairman of Live Nation’s Global Touring division, about Beyonce’s record-breaking tour. “To not only use the platform of a great production, but to rise above it as a performer and artist, that’s her incredibly unique quality.”
Let the Beyhive rejoice.
