WhatsApp has been testing the video calling feature for quite some time now, but the developer did not provide any details on when it might get released for the general public.
Well, it looks like today is the day WhatsApp has decided to kick off the rollout of the video calling feature to all supported mobile platforms.

In post on its blog, the team behind one of the most popular instant messaging apps confirm that, in the coming days, more than 1 billion users will be able to make calls across Android, iPhone and Windows Phone devices.

“We’re introducing this feature because we know that sometimes voice and text just aren’t enough. And we want to make these features available to everyone, not just those who can afford the most expensive new phones or live in countries with the best cellular networks,” reads WhatsApp's blog post.

Video calling was among the most requested features that WhatsApp has finally added to its application. According to developers, the first requests for a video calling feature date back to a few years ago, but for some reasons WhatsApp hasn't been able to fulfill the request until today.

The new video-calling feature works cross-platform
After voice calling, video calling is one of the most important new features added to the WhatsApp mobile app. Naturally, video calling works cross-platform, so it doesn't matter what phone the person you're calling owns, the feature will work nonetheless.

If you already have the WhatsApp app installed on your phone, you might want to check out Google Play, App Store or Windows Store for the latest update.

However, since this is a staged rollout, the latest version of WhatsApp might not be available in all countries at the same time. This means that you should try again later, as the update will eventually show up on your phone.
