The Presidency has finally moved to curb the violence between Fulani herdsmen and farmers across Nigeria.

The Nation reports that the federal government has set up a technical committee to find solutions to the reoccurring clashes between the two factions. The committee, which was launched in Abuja on Tuesday, November 8 by the minister of interior Gen. Abdulraham Dambazau (rtd), has two weeks to come up with its findings. The committee is headed by the Director-General of the Institute of Peace, Conflict and Resolution, Prof. Osita Osita.Dambazzau said the committee was raised to fashion out ways to address “this conflict that is fast becoming a clog in our efforts toward achieving a harmonious relationship among the citizenry as well as to our economic development moves.”It would also “Situate the Niger-Benue generally and Nigeria in particular as areas of conflict between pastoralists and sedentary farmers; identify regional and local laws and regulations that impact on the conflict and lastly, outline tentative strategies to deal with the conflict vis-a-vis the methodology for open stakeholders forum.”

The Nation reports that Prof. Osita said peace in Nigeria is not negotiable “because it is in the atmosphere of peace that government can deliver the dividends of democracy.”

Meanwhile, suspected herdsmen armed with firearms attacked a community in Abia state, leaving scores of the indigenes critically wounded.

The attack occurred at Ndi Okereke Abam in Ovukwu autonomous community in Arochukwu local government area.

This was confirmed by ACP Ogbonnaya Nta, the police spokesman, on Monday, November 7,
