The Interim Management Committee Chairman of Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Dr Humble Katuka, has declared a 24 hours curfew in the area following consistent herdsmen attacks that have created tension in Kafanchan.

Armed herdsmen on Saturday evening attacked a military outpost in Godogodo area where many villagers were reported killed.

The suspected herdsmen later advanced to other villages and killed about 20 people, burnt several houses in the Gododogodo area.

But Katuka, who confirmed the 24-hour curfew imposed on the Local Government to newsmen advised residents to remain indoors pending when the situation would be put under control.

Jema’a local government area is in the southern part of Kaduna, an area which has witnessed the killing of about 10, 000 locals in various attacks since 2013.

The attacks were largely blamed on suspected Fulani herdsmen. Both the state and the federal governments have not been able to stem the killings despite frequent protest by the communities and the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU).
