Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is believed to have made contact with the agent of Granit Xhaka regarding a summer move. The Swiss international has been strongly linked with a switch to the Emirates in January. but a move never materialised.

Since then, there has been speculation that the Gunners could come back for his services after they failed to keep up with the chase for the league title.

German sports daily Bild now reveals that Wenger has held initial negotiations with both the agent and father of the Gladbach skipper.

Adding to this, the Bundesliga side are said to be holding out for a fee of around ?33m for the 23-year-old, who has shined in the German league this term.

Xhaka's existing deal at Gladbach is due to expire in the summer of 2019.
