Three staff of the Lagos State Ministry of Environment on Monday appeared before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates? Court sitting in Lagos, over an alleged fraud of N28.5m.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Chinalu Uwadione, said the offences were committed between November 17, 2015 and December 4, 2015 at the ministry in Alausa, Lagos.

Uwadione told the court that the accused persons Babadola Adigun, 41, Olanrewaju Jones, 40 and Babatunde Olaogun, 31, claimed that they were Account Manager, Transport Manager and Legal Manager in the ministry respectively.

According to the prosecutor, the trio conspired and forged a local purchase order (LPO) which they used in stealing three Toyota Camry cars from an auto firm, Affordable Cars Limited.

The prosecutor added that Olaogun, who was the mastermind of the fraud, forged an LPO marked MOE 2950/49 dated Nov. 11, 2015, which they acted upon to steal the three Toyota Camry cars.

The chassis numbers of the three cars were LT4BFIFK6FR488931; 4T4BFIFR506879 and 4T4BFIFKFR506904 all valued N28.5 million.

?The offences contravened Sections 285(10), 363, 378 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011,?Uwadione noted.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

Chief Magistrate O.I. Adelaja granted bail to Adigun and Jones in the sum of N100,000 each with one surety each, while Olaogun granted bail in the sum of two million naira with two sureties.

Adelaja ordered that the sureties must show evidence of three years tax payment to the Lagos State Government, means of livelihood and have their addresses verified by the prosecutor, adding that the accused be remanded in prison custody pending the perfection of their bail.

The Magistrate adjourned the case till March 2 for further hearing.
