There?s currently uneasy calm in the Nasarawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a team of lawyers purportedly engaged by the party to represent it at the Local Government Election Petition Tribunal in 2014, have dragged the ruling party to court over N92.7 million debt.

One of the lawyers, who gave his name as Mr Shikammah Sheltu, told newsmen on Tuesday in Lafia that the party had contacted five of them to represent it at the tribunal in respect of chairmanship and councillorship elections in 13 local government areas of the state.

The lawyer, however, said that the party had agreed to pay N100 million as professional fee to the legal team out of which only N7.3 million was paid, leaving a balance of N92.7million.

He said that their decision to go to court was fueled by the party?s refusal to pay the balance after several reminders.

The lawyer said that the suit had been fixed for hearing at the state High Court 1 on Jan. 19, 2016.

Reacting to the claim, APC state Secretary, Mr Aliyu Bello, confirmed receipt of the summon and said the party would respond appropriately.
