Arsenal missed the chance to go top of the Premier League as Cuco Martina's stunning strike, Shane Long's double and Jose Fonte's header helped Southampton end a six-game unbeaten run at St Mary's. The Curacao international struck from 30 yards to open the scoring before Long and Fonte added second half goals to down the Gunners, who remain two points behind leaders Leicester City.

Claudio Ranieri's side suffered just their second league loss of the campaign as they were narrowly defeated by Liverpool at Anfield. Substitute Christian Benteke scored the only goal in the second half to claim The Reds' first top flight win since November.

Manchester City bounced back from being beaten by Arsenal as Kevin de Bruyne inspired the thrashing of Sunderland - but a further injury to captain Vincent Kompany is another fitness concern for manager Manuel Pellegrini. Raheem Sterling, Yaya Toure and Wilfried Bony put the hosts three up inside 22 minutes before De Bruyne struck his 10th goal of the season to add to the lead before Fabio Borini struck a consolation before the hour mark.

However, victory which cuts the gap to leaders Leicester to three points ahead of the meeting at the King Power Stadium, was overshadowed by the loss of Kompany who is set for a further spell out. The Belgium defender had missed the last eight games with a calf problem but came on a second half substitute, before a recurrence of the problem curtailed his cameo appearance after just 10 minutes.
