The House of Representatives has urged the Federal Government to provide rehabilitation and welfare centers for the critically-ill and physically challenged in the country.

Sequel to a motion by Rep. Sergius Ogun (Edo-PDP), which was unanimously adopted by members, Ogun expressed concern that in spite of the increasing number of the physically-challenged and critically-ill in Nigeria, successive governments had failed to address their plights.

Moving the motion on Wednesday, he said the vulnerable group is deprived of basic necessities for no fault of theirs, lamenting that the governments also refused to device a policy framework to address the plight of vulnerable persons, thereby depriving them of basic necessities of life.

?Apart from exposure to life threatening realities such as attacks and other risks arising from lack of shelter, these categories of Nigerians were deprived of equal opportunities of suitable employment.

?These physical conditions have made significant number of Nigerians to take to major cities, towns and streets to beg for alms, thereby projecting the country in bad light, especially among tourists and residents,? Ogun added.

The House, to this effect, delegated its Committee on Healthcare Services, Poverty Alleviation and Women Affairs and Social Development to liaise with relevant ministries and agencies to formulate measures to relocate the physically-challenged and critically-ill persons in the country.
