It looks like Google is trying to compete with Opera Software when it comes to saving data on not-so-good Internet connections. Many Android users have been pleased with the Opera Max, which is supposed to reduce their data traffic bills by a lot.

Now Google is making some changes to its Chrome browser as well. According to the search giant, Chrome on Android will use a new way to save data on smartphones and tablets.

Google has just announced that it will update the Data Saver mode in Chrome for Android to save even more data. Google engineers claim that using the updated Data Saver mode will reduce the amount of data used when visiting a webpage by up to 70 percent.

How is that possible, you might wonder. Well, it's pretty simple. Google stated that the new Data Saver mode would remove most images when loading a page on a slow connection.
