No fewer than sixteen members of an extended family were during the weekend crushed to death in a fatal road mishap that occurred in Kano.

Eleven other persons suffered varying degrees of injury in the accident, which occurred at Gwarzo-Kano road.

It was gathered that the victims were on their way to a naming ceremony.

Eyewitnesses told newsmen that 27 members of an extended family, including the drivers of the Toyota Hiace buses, were involved, out of which 16 died.

They were family members of the former Managing Director of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Halilu Getso.

It was gathered that the two buses were overtaking another vehicle and in the process collided with an oncoming truck.

The Kano State Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mallam Aminu Usman, confirmed the accident.

He noted that the bodies of the dead, mostly youths, had been evacuated and buried according to Muslim rites.
