Gunnlod sat me in the golden seat,
Poured me precious mead:
Ill reward she had from me for that,
For her proud and passionate heart,
Her brooding foreboding spirit.

About 1,500 persons have been reportedly trapped and scores of houses submerged by the ravaging flood at Adia-Obiaka community, Ndokwa-East Local Government Area, Delta State.

Farmlands and valuable household properties have also been destroyed by the flood which found its way into the community as the River Niger overflowed its banks.

It was gathered that the flood which began to flow into the community early last week had completely overtaken the village, as farmers were forced to embark on panic harvest.

Speaking with newsmen on the development, the councillor representing Umuolu ward 6, in the Ndokwa-East Local Government Area, legislative arm, Mr. Major Azubike, said ?their farmlands have been destroyed, so they are trying to gather the little they can before they are evacuated from the community.?

He disclosed that the council?s administration had concluded plans to evacuate the victims to a camp at the Skills Acquisition Centre in Ashaka.

?It is a very big problem; we visited the community on Wednesday and we assembled the people and gave them up till Sunday to prepare to be evacuated to the IDP camp at Ashaka,? he said.
