BlackBerry set to launch first android Phone 'Venice Slider'

BlackBerry Priv is going to run Android onboard

BlackBerry is expected to unveil its first Android smartphone in the upcoming months, a device which the rumor mill has dubbed Venice. The handset will be a silder and BlackBerry hopes the atypical form factor, coupled with the Android operating system, will be enough to make customers desire it.

While we?ve been calling the Android slider the BlackBerry Venice for quite a while now, a recent post by @evleaks reveals that the phone will arrive in retail under a different name, which is to be expected.

All four major carriers in the US are said to offer the device post-November, after BlackBerry has had a chance to unveil the slider. But customers looking to pick up the new smartphone will have to look for the BlackBerry Priv. That?s the name under which the Canadian company will make the slider available.

The Priv is rumored to carry model number STV100-G. At this point, we have to wonder whether Priv has something to do with ?privacy? and if BlackBerry is aiming to unveil an extremely secure Android device (not that there aren?t super safe Android phones selling on the market right now).
