A man was last Wednesday alleged to have slept with his 16 -year-old daughter (names withheld) at Yimi village in Zuba, Gwagwalada Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
A resident said the incident happened at about 9:34 p.m. when the father went into one of the rooms where his children were sleeping, woke up his daughter and took her into his bedroom.
In the bedroom, the father ordered his daughter to remove her clothes and allegedly raped her, another resident of the area told City News at the weekend.
The resident said the man threatened to kill the girl if she told her mother what he did to her. He said the following morning, however, the mother discovered that the girl was bleeding and decided to find out what went wrong with her but that she refused to talk despite efforts by even other members of the family.
The resident said the mother immediately invited members of the vigilante at Zuba, who came to interrogate her before she opened up that her father raped her.
?The girl and the mother were taken to the vigilante office at Zuba. The father also joined them at the office, where the matter was tabled,? the resident said.
He said the father admitted sleeping with his daughter during interrogation by the vigilantes but that some elders of the community intervened in the matter and later took the girl to hospital for treatment.
Our reporter learnt that the estranged father divorced his wife after the Inbreeding incident became public but the elders waded in to resolve the matter.
A member of the vigilante in the area, who craved anonymity, confirmed the incident, saying the matter was resolved at their office after some elders intervened.
?In fact, the girl was taken to a private hospital at Zuba, where she was treated and discharged,? he said.
Meanwhile, the vigilante disclosed that another man was also arrested on the same day for allegedly defiling an 8-year-old girl at Minister?s Hill area of Zuba.
He said the incident happened after the accused lured the girl, who was hawking bean cakes (akara) into his room, saying it was some neighbours that raised alarm before members of the vigilante rushed to the place to arrest the accused.
?The man lured the girl after he bought all her akara and asked her to follow him to the room for her money, amounting to N600. About 30 minutes later when the girl did not come out, a neighbour suspected foul play and went into the room only to meet the man Unclad,? he said.
The vigilante disclosed that the accused was later handed over to the policemen at an outpost, opposite Zuba Motor Park.
He said the girl was taken to a hospital by some relatives.
Efforts to get the reaction of the Zuba Divisional Police Officer over the two incidents were not successful, but a police officer confirmed them, saying the cases were still under investigation.
