Apple Is Building an iPhone Everyone Can Afford

Apple is very likely to launch three different iPhone models in September, and all of them will be direct successors to the existing devices already on the market.

In other words, the iPhone trio debuting this year will be upgraded versions of iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR.

Bigger changes are planned for 2020, when according to JP Morgan analysts Apple could launch not three, but four different models.

As per CNBC, the analysts believe that Apple could maintain this approach with an increased focus on the three premium iPhones, but at the same time, also focus on a lower-cost version that could become the cheaper iPhone everyone can afford.

The 2020 iPhone generation will include models with screen sizes measuring 5.4 inches, 6.1 inches, and 6.7 inches, the analysts say, and 5G support will be one of the key features – Apple has recently settled its legal dispute with Qualcomm, and it’s believed that the San Diego-based chipmaker would supply the modem for this iPhone.

However, JP Morgan says 5G could become a key engine of the iPhone sales growth, as Apple will sell some 195 million units next year.

Apple is also planning major hardware upgrades, including 3D sensing tech for the rear cameras. This could become a feature exclusive to the larger model, according to speculation that reached the web earlier this year.

The lower-cost iPhone, however, would obviously undergo a cost-cutting program, so it won’t come with an OLED screen, for instance. However, this contradicts previous reports that Apple would give up on LCD entirely beginning with the 2020 generation.

The analysts believe this more affordable iPhone could be the size of the iPhone 8, albeit no rumors concerning its design are available for the time being. Nevertheless, this device could feature the same design a la iPhone X, with reduced bezels that would help increase the available screen estate versus the original iPhone 8.
