In-display fingerprint sensors have been one of the most discussed topics in the last few months, mostly because tech giants like Apple and Samsung were believed to be looking into bringing this tech to their own devices.

But while neither made this happen, competition in this particular side of the market is increasing, and according to a new report, more suppliers are investing in developing this feature.

Digitimes writes that Fingerprint Cards (FPC), Goodix, Silead and Synaptics have all invested aggressively in the development of in-display fingerprint sensors for smartphones, even though Apple and Samsung are yet to actively begin projects to bring this tech to their models.

The cited source, however, notes that Samsung is the big winner of this new trend, as both optical and ultrasonic sensors are based on displays manufactured by Samsung Display. The South Korean firm has also produced the OLED panel used on the iPhone X.
