Southampton are urging Jay Rodriguez to sign a new contract despite speculation linking him with a ?20million switch to Tottenham Hotspur to be reunited with former manager Mauricio Pochettino, Mirror reports.

To two clubs have continued to deny transfer negotiations between each other throughout the summer and it looks as though the Saints will once again reject a move for the Tottenham target.


The 25-year-old forward has not featured since the previous season after picking up a cruciate knee injury but is believed to still be in line to tie down a new five-year deal.

Apart from Rodriguez, Pochettino is also targeting midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin and is said to be preparing a move at the end of the current campaign.

It is highly likely that Spurs will be selling a number of players in January and their new manager is looking to rebuild his own squad in hopes of improving on their shaky start.
