New Windows Phone Invented with Windows PE on Android Device

As we all know by now, Windows 10 Mobile no longer has a future in Microsoft’s vision, but this doesn’t necessarily mean that Windows itself doesn’t have its own place on smartphones.

And while the software giant itself is said to be working on bringing Windows 10 (most likely ARM) on a purposed Surface Phone, the community finds other ways to get various versions of Windows running on smartphones that weren’t supposed to be powered by Microsoft’s operating system in the first place.

We’ve already seen Windows 10 on ARM installed on Windows phones, and now Twitter user @rlinev demoed his own experiment that got Windows PE running on an Xiaomi Mi 4.

While at this point the operating system hits an error when trying to boot, this project is living proof that Windows PE can be installed on an Android phone and with more research, all the errors could be fixed.

Microsoft: Windows Phone is dead
Is this helpful in any way for the future of Windows phones? Probably not, as the fate of Microsoft’s platform has already been decided by the software giant itself.

Joe Belfiore said recently that no new features and devices are planned for Windows 10 Mobile, though nobody within the company has until now denied the Surface Phone project that could bring the full version of Windows 10 on a phone.

The more exciting project that’s being worked on right now, however, is Android app support on Windows phones. Project Astoria allowed this during the development of Windows 10 Mobile, and since Microsoft decided to pull the plug on this idea before releasing it publicly, third-party devs are now working to bring it back and make it work on the latest builds of the OS.

Whether this will succeed or not still remains to be seen, but thanks to the support shown by the community, Windows phones might stick around for a little longer.
