Suspected Boko Haram members on Monday invaded Kukawa, a historical town in Borno State.

Three persons were said to have been killed while some public buildings were reportedly burnt in Kukawa, one of the most popular towns in the history of the Kanuris.

Among the buildings set ablaze include the headquarters of Kukawa Local Government Area, a police station, government lodge, among others.

A resident of the town, Mallam Modu, who called to tell journalists in Maiduguri, said the insurgents stormed the town in several Hilux vehicles and motorcycles, where they attacked the police station with Rocket Propelled Grenade and guns.

He said, ?The insurgents razed down the Kukawa Divisional Police station and some public buildings in the town.

?I cannot tell the casualty figure because we had to flee the town to save our lives.?

Another resident of the town, Modu Mohammed, said they fled the town due to the attack as the insurgents killed three persons and burnt down Kukawa police station and the government lodge.

Also razed by the terrorists were private houses, government clinics and vehicles of the company exploring oil in the Chad Basin area.

Narrating the incident, he said the insurgents laid siege to the town at about 4am and had a field day till about 10pm on Monday.

Confirming the incident, the Caretaker Chairman of Kukawa Local Government Area, Alhaji Modu Musa, said the insurgents
invaded the town, killing many people and burnt down the town, including over 300 vehicles.
