iPhone 8 to Support Fast Charging

In comments submitted to investors yesterday, top Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo provided everyone with a closer look at what to expect from the iPhone 8, the new model projected to launch in September.

But in comments that haven’t made it to the web originally, Kuo reveals a few more details about the new iPhone, including information regarding the charging systems to be offered on the device.

First and foremost, there’s a good chance that all iPhones, including here the iPhone 8, the 7s, and the 7s Plus, will come with glass bodies and metal frames to allow for wireless charging. Kuo says Apple will implement WPC-standard wireless charging, which means that the iPhone will adopt the Qi wireless charging standard, just like the majority of Android phones.

But even though this will be one of the biggest new features on the 2017 iPhones, Apple won’t include a wireless charger in the box, so customers would have to purchase it separately.

And then, it’s the standard charging system, which according to the analyst, should support a fast charging mode as well. Specifically, Apple could implement USB-C power delivery IC for such a system, but once again, a dedicated charger won’t be included in the box. Instead, the iPhone will come a USB-A to Lightning cable and a 5W power adapter.

Additionally, the RAM will also get a speed increase of up to 15 percent, the analyst says, as iPhones need more power to support AR features.

As far as the position of the fingerprint sensor is concerned, Kuo explains there’s a good chance Apple gives up on its entirely, going instead for facial recognition thanks to new 3D cameras.

It goes without saying that we should take these with a pinch of salt since Apple keeps all details secret, but with the debut expected to take place sometime in September, more such detail should reach the web at a faster pace.
