Wyclef Jean is bringing the carnival back. In celebration of the 20th anniversary of his stellar 1997 solo debut, The Carnival, the former Fugee frontman is releasing his eighth album, Carnival III: The Fall and Rise of a Refugee, this fall.
On Thursday (June 22), Wyclef released two songs from the project, “What Happened To Love” (produced by The Knocks) and “Fela Kuti” (produced by Supah Mario). He also unveiled the track list, which you can view below.

“My Carnival albums have always been about celebrating music culture from all parts of the world and Carnival III is no different,” says Wyclef in a press release. “It’s outside the box. There’s genre-bending. There’s new talent on there.”
“Carnival III is more than just an album. It’s a celebration of what I love about music: discovery, diversity and artistry for art’s sake,” he continues. “It’s about putting music together that will outlive me and live on for generations to come that is full of emotion, vibration and fun. Get ready.”

Obviously, “Felt Kuti” is an ode to the influential Nigerian musician Fela Kuti, who was a major figure in the 1970s Afrobeat scene. We suggest you watch the 2014 documentary Finding Fela, which explored his life, music and social and political stance.
Not only will the Carnival III have thought-provoking songs, the collection will also have songs for the dance floor as well.
“Do I have anything for the clubs?” he asks. “You’re talking to The Carnival Man! I’ve done the biggest dance records of all time! I plan to put them on the dancefloor more so than ever. I know people want that dance floor bounce from me — that hip-hop thing,” he said.
Wyclef Jean’s Carnival III will arrive in stores on Sept. 15 via Legacy Records.
