Arsenal celebrate FA Cup success

Arsenal ended their season on a high note after having lifted the FA Cup for a record 13th time in their history.
Right from the off, the Gunners looked to have set their sights on lifting the trophy after Alexis Sanchez netted an early opener which had suspicions of offside and perhaps handball before referee Anthony Taylor overruled the decision.

The Gunners should have got themselves two to three goals clear in the first half with Aaron Ramsey and Danny Welbeck having both hit the woodwork while a Mesut Ozil attempt was cleared off the line by Gary Cahill.

Leading into the second period, the Blues appeared revitalised after a teamtalk from Antonio Conte, but their hopes of an equaliser became slim in the 68th minute after Victor Moses was sent off for a second bookable defence following a visible dive in the penalty box.

Diego Costa managed to make a game for the Blues in the 77th minute as he found an equaliser following a deflection off Per Mertesacker's foot - past the trailing hands of David Ospina.

However, the Blues appeared to switch off following the goal as substitute Olivier Giroud linked up brilliantly with Aaron Ramsey, who dinked a header past Thibaut Courtois to net the winner - as he did in 2014.

The Gunners had endured a tough Premier League campaign where they finished fifth in the league, but the FA Cup success would bring some sort of joy to the club's faithful ahead of what could be a busy transfer period this summer.

Arsenal are likely to make a decision on Arsene Wenger's future in the coming days with The Mirror previously suggesting that the Frenchman will be rewarded with an extension beyond the summer.
