All Three New 2017 iPhones to Include Wireless Charging Features

To say there are many rumors regarding this year’s iPhone is an understatement. Aside from display size and design rumors, many seem to agree that the 2017 iPhone will most likely come with wireless charging.

This piece of information is yet again confirmed by KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who claims that the three new 2017 iPhones will come with wireless charging. MacRumors obtained a document signed by Kuo, in which he says that wireless charging increases the internal temperature of phones, therefore Apple must take measures to protect the insides of the new iPhones.

This means that the iPhone 8 will most likely feature an OLED display and glass casing with a new 3D Touch module. The latter would have added “graphite sheet lamination” in order to prevent the smartphone from overheating.

“While we don’t expect general users to notice any difference, lamination of an additional graphite sheet is needed for better thermal control and, thus, steady operation; this is because FPCB is replaced with film, which is more sensitive to temperature change of the 3D touch sensor in OLED iPhone,” Kuo added.

The new 3D Touch could drive the iPhone’s price up by $5, while recent reports say that the anniversary iPhone 8 could cost more than $1,000. This may seem discouraging to some, but Apple plans on incorporating premium parts inside the new phone and making significant changes to its design. Apple is also rumored to release the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus this year, with supposed 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch displays.

Kuo didn’t mention if the wireless charging technology is based on long-range or inductive design. As opposed to long-range charging, inductive wireless charging technology relies on magnetic coils to provide power rather than radio waves. Apple did sign a deal with wireless charging company Energous, so it seems very likely that the upcoming iPhone will have this feature.
