After the Galaxy Note 7 recall, Samsung is surely working on making the Galaxy S8 one of the most impressive smartphones of 2017. Speculation on the upcoming phone is in full swing, especially when it comes to its design and functionality.

Rumors say that Samsung could mount a bezel-less display on the Galaxy S8 and no home button on the front of the phone. This raises questions when it comes to the fingerprint scanning technology, specifically the scanner’s location on the phone.

Some suggested that Samsung could embed the fingerprint scanner directly under the display, using the FS9100 sensor recently released by optical technology company Synaptics. While that certainly sounds exciting, new rumors suggest that it might not be the case.

The Galaxy S8 could feature an iris scanner as well
The fingerprint scanner might be located on the back of the Galaxy S8, while the upcoming flagship will retain the iris recognition technology found on the Note 7, according to Naver.

Many smartphone makers have repositioned the fingerprint scanner on the back, seeing how it makes it easier to unlock the phone when holding it. The scanner could be similar to the one available on the Google Pixel and located below the rumored dual-camera setup on the back.

Since we’re on the subject of design, it’s worth mentioning that the Galaxy S8 could come with a dual-edge curved display for both of its 5.7-inch and 6.2-inch variants. The flagship won’t have a flat screen version and not for reasons connected to its efficiency. Samsung wants to make the Galaxy S8 stand out from other flagships next year, in an attempt to regain consumer trust after the Galaxy Note 7 disaster.

We’re only a few months away from the official unveiling of the Galaxy S8 at MWC 2017 in February and information on the upcoming phone will surely continue to surface.
