Nigeria Police dismiss six senior officers for impersonation
« on: October 28, 2016, 06:24:50 AM »

The Police Service Commission, has dismissed six senior officers for impersonation, forgery, insubordination, negligence and disobedience to lawful order.

The dismissals involved Superintendents of Police, Assistant Superintendents and a Chief Superintendent of Police.

The commission at its plenary meeting on Thursday in Abuja, also rejected the recommendation of the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, for special promotion of 12 officers.

These were part of the decisions taken by the Commission on 55 disciplinary cases brought before it, a statement on Thursday in Abuja by the Head, Press and Public Relations, PSC, Ikechukwu Ani, stated.

It explained that the commission rejected the recommendation for special promotion of one Deputy Superintendent of Police and one Inspector and also returned the recommendation for the appointment of a Deputy Commissioner of Police on acting capacity for proper presentation.

“It also withheld the special promotion of nine other senior police officers for failure of the police to provide convincing reasons for such promotions,” the statement added.

The PSC however promoted 135 officers, including four Deputy Commissioners of Police to the next rank of Commissioners, adding that the CPs had earlier appeared before the commission, where they were subjected to questions on the change agenda of the Nigeria Police Force.

The new CPs are, Posi Ajunwa; Akinsanmi Ayo; Kenneth Ebrimson and Akpoebi Egbuson.

The commission also elevated 17 Assistant Commissioners of Police to Deputy Commissioners and 78 CSPs to Assistant Commissioners of Police.

The two-day meeting, presided over by the Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Mike Okiro, a retired Inspector General of Police, also endorsed the promotions of one SP to CSP; 12 DSPs to SPs and one ASP to DSP.

“Two CSPs were also appointed ACPs on acting capacity, two SPs to acting CSPs, two DSPs to acting SPs, six ASPs to acting DSPs and 12 Inspectors to acting Assistant Superintendents of Police,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, the IG has canvassed for a better funding of the police, noting that the force needed more than 10,000 personnel to fill the vacuum created by those who died or retired.

Idris, who stated this when the Senate Committee on Police Affairs paid him a visit at the Force Headquarters, also suggested that the judicial system be improved to avoid delayed trials and prison congestion.
